  Our Star Pupils

Eloise - 5BS

Eloise Sherwood has been enjoying gymnastics since she was 4 years old. She started at Tamworth Olympic Gymnastic Club around three years ago as a novice, but was soon offered a place in their ‘elite’ squad. She now trains for a minimum of 17 hours a week (more during school holidays). Formal competitions cannot be entered until the year a gymnast turns eight which is this year for Eloise, and as a result she took part in her first national competition in Ipswich on 18th February. She came 15th overall and won a bronze merit award in her range and conditioning – (this is where a gymnast has to demonstrate their core strength and flexibility before they are able to compete on the apparatus.)

Well done Eloise from everyone at Four Oaks - we are extremely proud of you !

Becky - Past Pupil

Click here for Becky's latest exciting new !
Becky has been learning Karate for the last 5 years and has reached 2nd Kyu as her grade so far, which is one above Brown Belt and one below Black Belt. Becky has to train a minimum of 3 sessions a week to mainatin the high standards required of her grade and to train towards her Black Belt which is expected to be achieved late next year.

She has been entered into numerous competitions by her Sensei and the most recent was the National Open Karate Championship on Sunday 9th June 2009. Becky was entered in the individual Kata competition and finished second. This in itself was a great achievement but she was then invited to represent England in the WKA World Championships in October 2009 !

This is not only a great honour for Becky and rewards all her hard work and commitment, but also means that she has to train an extra 2 hours a week at the Digbeth Academy.

Well done Becky, we are all very proud of you !

OLIVIA - Past Pupil

Olivia joined Stagecoach as a “little tot” well over 4 years ago.  Over the years she has done numerous shows at Stagecoach and enjoyed every one of them, using each to grow in confidence and skill.  However, she also wanted to do that something a little more – to be part of a larger stage show and the “glitz and glam” that goes with it!  Well, with a bit luck and a big push she was recently selected to be part of the cast of EVITA at the Birmingham Hippodrome.  As one of the children in the cast, she took part in 8 shows, her final curtain call being on Wednesday 14th October.

Although exhausted, she loved every moment of every performance.  She danced with Eva, celebrated with Che and, with Colonel Peron, mourned for his wife and the show’s star.  She still wakes up to the hum of  “Don’t cry for me………”

Well done Olivia, we are all very proud of you !

Lauren - Past Pupil

Lauren started swimming when she was only 4 years old and just before Christmas she joined Boldmere Swimming Club. She now goes training four times a week and enters lots of galas at different venues around the country. Since joining Boldmere she has gone from strength to strength and now represents them in their Midlands squad. Swimming has become a way of life for Lauren and she says ‘I really enjoy swimming as I have made lots of great friends and it keeps me fit. Of course swimming is an important life skill as well so I recommend it to everyone !’
